Hotel room equipment: take it or leave it?

Hotel facilities

In large hotels, it is customary to renew certain products daily, especially those in the bathroom. And, let’s not kid ourselves, the majority of customers are particularly fond of these small bottles of shampoo, shower gel and other body care. They do not hesitate to slip some into their luggage to take them home. Let’s face it, although you don’t have the soul of a thief, when you enter your pretty hotel room, it’s hard to resist this panoply of small “luxurious” objects that make you eye. Some may think it’s “theft,” but the truth is, there’s nothing wrong with bringing home a few bottles of toiletries. Knowing that your bill largely covers the cost of these items!

The hotels take the opportunity to offer them generously, just to keep a good memory of your stay and to make a little publicity at the same time. But be careful, do not believe that everything in the room automatically belongs to you! If some items are indeed within your reach, other items are the property of the hotel and it would be detrimental to steal them. Nevertheless, many travelers allow themselves some deviations. As proof: according to a study conducted by the Wellness Heaven platform, among some luxury establishments, many tourists do not hesitate to take with them “non-free” objects such as remote control, dishes (glasses, cups, cutlery), sheets and pillowcases, paintings, iron, hairdryer, coffee maker, telephone or bedside lamps. Just that!

What can you take in the suitcase?

With a little common sense and a minimum of etiquette, it is not rocket science to know the difference between what can be taken away and what should not be touched! Now that you have an idea of what to avoid “stinging” in your hotel room, let’s see what you can put in your suitcase without feeling guilty.

  • Slippers

Elegant, soft and fluffy, the slippers of beautiful hotels are popular with all travelers. From the first day, after the shower, we put them on with pleasure and they keep our feet warm. Can’t do without it at the end of your stay? Rest assured, the hotel offers you these slippers that you like so much!  Since no one will use them after you, there is no problem keeping them.

  • Toiletries

When perfectly clean, beautifully decorated, and well-equipped, the bathroom remains one of travelers’ favorite rooms. As a bonus, some establishments take care to garnish it as desired! General observation: we are all attracted by these chic little bags and bottles. We hasten to open them one after the other to discover their contents. The good news is that it is perfectly permissible to take all these products with you. Enough to fill up on shampoos, shower gels, moisturizers, oils and other treatments. As you may have noticed, some high-end hotels also offer a whole range of useful items: toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, cotton swabs, combs, sewing kits, etc. The most prestigious of them even delight you with samples of luxury perfumes. Enjoy it, everything is offered free of charge!

  • Food and beverages

As a welcome, some hotels go all out to satisfy their guests. Thus, once you enter the room, you have the pleasant surprise to discover on the table a basket of fruit, delicious sweets, chocolate, water and drinks. Obviously, as they are perishable products, you can happily enjoy them. In some palaces, the lucky ones can even benefit from a free bottle of champagne and more sophisticated snacks. Isn’t it said that the customer is king? On the other hand, it should be remembered that everything found to ben The minibar, mainly alcohol, is chargeable.

  • Notebooks and pens

It is not uncommon to find notepads, pens and pencils with the hotel logo. Don’t worry, they are renewed for each client, so you can keep them with you.  After all, it’s even an extra promotion for the establishment! Some guests will sometimes be lucky enough to find free maps and travel guides in their room. Even better, a few luxury hotels even offer free tickets or passes, such as to visit a museum or enjoy a local tourist attraction. Royal, right?

What about bathrobes and towels?

Towels in the hotel room

This is the burning question… and who even annoys sometimes! Because no, even if some do not hesitate to slip these items in their suitcase, it is not allowed to take towels and bathrobes. We agree, these pieces are very pleasant to the touch and generally of good quality, but even if it is tempting to secretly pack at least one piece in the suitcase, it is better to hold back. Imagine the picture: if all customers get involved, it would be a real shortfall for the establishment! Tell yourself that towels, bathrobes and for that matter the entire bedding, are the property of the hotel. And for good reason, they are cleaned, disinfected and reused by other customers. The establishment is not supposed to systematically buy back all these items. It is better to be warned: if one of these elements is missing, once at check-out, you will probably be asked to pay for it!

Can I take someone back to my hotel room?

In absolute terms, most hotels grant guests permission to bring visitors back to their rooms. However, this policy may vary by institution. For example, some require informing the reception, while others limit the duration of the visit or establish specific schedules. You may also come across a hotel that strictly prohibits access to non-residents, at least in the rooms.
