TOP TEN DRUGS THAT CAUSE KIDNEY DAMAGE: PLEASE SHARE FOR INFORMATION | Healthy Life Vision

Gudrun Howell · July 20, 2018 ·

Doctors prescribe us medications for almost anything, but people don’t understand that these drugs can have serious side-effects on our health. Prescribed meds are especially bad for the kidneys, one of our most important organs. If they do damage the kidneys, the organ will fail to work properly, resulting in serious health problems. Here’s a list of medications that can do considerable damage to the kidneys:

Analgesics

NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), acetaminophen, naproxen, ibuprofen, aspirin.

Antibiotics

Vancomycin, methicillin, ciprofloxacin, sulfonamides.

Heartburn medications

All of the drugs from the proton pump inhibitor class such as rabeprazole, napronazole, esomeprazole, pantoprazole, omeprazole.

High blood pressure drugs

Captopril (brand name Capoten).

COX-2 inhibitors

Recently, two types of COX-2 inhibitors have been withdrawn from the market as they have been found damaging to the cardiovascular system. These drugs are rofecoxib and valdecoxib, which were invented as a special type of NSAIDs that won’t damage the stomach. However, like all NSAIDs, they damage the liver.

Antivirals

Acyclovir, indinavir and tenofivir (often given to HIV patients).

Rheumatoid arthritis medications

Chloroquine, hydrochloroquine and infliximab, which are given for rheumatoid arthritis as well as systemic lupus erythematosus.

Anticonvulsants

Trimethadione and phenytoin, often used to treat seizures.

Chemotherapy drugs

Tacrolimus, carboplatin, pamidronate, interferons, mitomycin C, quinine, bevacizumab, cyclosporine and some anti-thyroid drugs such as propylthiouracil can severely damage your kidneys.

Finally, lithium, which is used to treat bipolar disorders can also damage your kidneys.
