TOP 5 WARNING SIGNS OF KIDNEY DAMAGE YOU'RE IGNORING | Healthy Life Vision

Gudrun Howell · July 20, 2018 ·

When the function of one of your organs is somehow affected, you will definitely experience some symptoms. Do you know what happens if the kidneys are unable to expel toxins from your blood? Continue reading below to learn about the most common symptoms of kidney damage.

Pain in the lower back

Pain in the lower back is the most common symptom of kidney damage. The pain may be present on one side only, but can spread on both sides in a while. It might be more pronounced when you wake up or go to pee in the middle of the night. Of course, pain in the lower back might be caused by injuries as well, but it’s best to let a doctor determine the cause.

Rashes, dry and itchy skin

When the kidney function is impaired, toxins will accumulate in your blood and directly affect the state of your skin. This can result in dry and itchy skin as well as rashes which won’t go away with creams or lotions.

Urinary function changes

If you notice any kind of change in your urine it may be a sign of kidney damage. Here are the changes you may experience:

  • Foamy or bubbly urine;
  • Pale color of the urine;
  • Bloody urine;
  • Dark colored urine;
  • A frequent urge to urinate and difficulty while urinating.

Swelling

The kidneys are the body’s main filtration organ, so if they’re not working at an optimal function it may result in fluid retention in the body. The excess fluids may cause swelling in the face, limbs, ankles and feet, so make sure to visit a doctor as soon as you notice this symptom.

Fatigue and weakness

The kidneys produce a hormone called erythropoietin which stimulates new red blood cell production. Red blood cells distribute oxygen through the body, but if their numbers are reduced, less oxygen will get to your tissues which will make your feel tired all the time.

Main causes of kidney damage

Kidney damage is most often caused by heavy metals such as cadmium, which pollutes the environment through the burning of oil and coal. Burning municipal waste will also result in release of cadmium in the air. The heavy metal is also present in phosphate fertilizers that can pollute produce, which will allow it to enter your body. Furthermore, cadmium is also found in cigarettes, so smokers inhale it on a daily basis.

How to improve your kidney function

Following a healthy lifestyle is the best way to keep your kidneys healthy. Quitting smoking and reducing your alcohol intake is also important, as cigarettes contain a high level of cadmium that can harm your kidneys. Drink plenty of water as well in order to assist your kidneys in the elimination of toxins. Consuming cranberry juice every day will boost your kidney function and help them deal with toxins better.
