BABY BORN WEIGHING 18 KG, IS THE LARGEST IN THE WORLD. NOW WHAT YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE IS WHAT THE MOTHER WEIGHS | Healthy Life Vision

Gudrun Howell · July 26, 2018 ·

Giving birth is one of the most unique and beautiful experiences for a woman. Although childbirth is not an easy process, everything is forgotten once the baby comes out. When a mother sees her girl or boy after 9 months of bearing it in her womb, the pain immediately goes away.

Although babies are usually born healthy, some cases require special care. In general, babies are 46-53.5 cm. long and 2.5-4.3 kg. in weight. These dimensions make childbirth a complicated thing. But, imagine if a child was born five times bigger! This recently happened in one Australian hospital!

An overweight woman came to the emergency a few weeks ago – she was in labor and about to give birth. The doctors set her up and examined the woman, and what they found was shocking – the results showed that the baby weighed 18 kg.! This was an extreme case and they determined that the baby must be delivered via a C-section.

“In previous situations, we had already dealt with overweight women. However, we had never witnessed anything like what we were seeing. Without doubt, this birth will be recorded forever in our lives. However, we realized that it was a very robust and large baby. I’m sure he’ll be a professional rugby player when he gets older,” the doctor joked. He also said that he first thought that the woman carried twins or triplets, and that the uniqueness of the case is one for the history books.

As everyone is aware of, being overweight is not great for children or adults both, but it’s even worse for an unborn child. The condition is known as Macrostomia. Here are a few possible health problems that may arise by the condition:

Polycythemia

About half of the Macrostomic infants have an increased number of red blood cells. This makes the blood more viscous and slows down the normal blood flow, while also affecting the proper central nervous system functions.

Hypoglycemia

This is a condition that occurs when the blood sugar levels drop below 50 mg/dL. Hypoglycemia is highly dangerous and can damage the kidneys, heart and brain.

Respiratory distress

Usually, macrostomic children suffer from some kind of respiratory problems.

Hyperbilirubinemia

This condition occurs when bilirubin crosses the barrier that protects the brain. It affects the neurons in the brain and destroys them. The disease is otherwise known as Kernicterus.

Injuries

When a baby this big goes through the birth canal, it can result in fractures and damage the clavicle.

If you want to conceive and give birth to a healthy child, you should take care of your health first. Visit your doctor regularly to monitor the baby, eat a healthy diet and stay physically active as well. This will ensure that the child you carry is healthy and prevent complications when giving birth.
