Why do you have to close your bedroom door before sleeping?

Gudrun Howell · July 27, 2023 ·

This may be a detail for you, but keeping the bedroom door closed is important in more ways than one. Do you doubt it? We will prove to you how wrong you are, in the following lines.

Why do you have to close your bedroom door before sleeping?

What could be more soothing and restful than a good night’s sleep… In any case, it is everyone’s wish at bedtime, no! But the situation is quite different the next morning. With a heavy head, you can barely open your eyes. The fault of the neighbor’s dog. You were in the front row to take part in his barking concert! But maybe the situation would have been different if you had thought of closing the bedroom door, quite simply!

Yes, sleeping with the door open is the habit you have developed over the years. Are you struggling to get rid of it? Maybe we’ll change your mind! Are you taking the bet?

Dealing with disaster is the last thing you imagine before you fall asleep. However, the risk of fire is never far away! Immersed in the middle of your dreams, you will not have time to react… unless your doors are closed!

As surprising as it may seem, a closed door could represent an effective barrier against the progression of flames and smoke, but also the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, in case of fire, as relayed by the newspaper Ouest-France.

It is no coincidence that in 2019, as part of the prevention campaign, “Close Before You Doz”, the UL FSRI (Fire Safety Research Institute), an American research institute, said that keeping all the doors of your home closed could “potentially save lives”. The message couldn’t be clearer!

Enough to save you precious seconds or even minutes in case of fire. So, convinced enough?

Why do some people prefer to sleep with the door open?

In some cases, this is not an oversight. Indeed, you are one of those people who prefer to sleep with the bedroom door open. The debate is open! Especially since it would have an impact on, hold on tight… sleep quality. Just that!

In any case, this is what the results of research conducted by a team of scientists have affirmed. They dwelt on the sleep patterns of young adults for many days. This study published in 2017, by the International Journal of Indoor Environment and Health, came to the following conclusion: people sleep better when the bedroom door is open than closed. Surprising!

The reason is rather simple. By sleeping with the door open, the air inside the room is renewed. But that’s not all! This would allow you to fall asleep faster and wake up in great shape. Enough to skip breakfast… Not so sure!

The prospect of a good restful sleep, what could be better?

Sleeping door open or closed, what does feng shui say?

And feng shui, in all this? You are a follower of this philosophy and you want positive energies to flow in your rooms. But what does feng shui recommend? Sleeping with the door open or closed?

Hang on, the bedroom door must be… Closed! Only in this way will you manage to conserve the positive energy present in your bedroom. No room for negative chi!

To you, well-being and peace of mind. What more could you ask for?

Dear readers, before you fall asleep, you must first think about safety and take the trouble to close the door of your bedroom, even if you have trouble resisting the call of sleep!
