When should I consult a naturopath?

Gudrun Howell · June 8, 2023 ·

Digestion problems, burn-out, eczema or joint pain… The field of action of naturopathy is particularly wide! Find out how a naturopath can help you get better.

What is naturopathy?

Naturopathy includes a set of natural practices for therapeutic purposes to heal the body and mind, but also to maintain good physical and mental health in order to avoid certain ailments. It is indeed above all a preventive (alternative) medicine that allows you to be healthy in order to better withstand the physical and psychological hassles that could cross your road. She uses many means, all natural, such as diet, massage, phytotherapy or physical activity. Recognized by the World Health Organization as the 3rd traditional medicine after Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic Medicine, it excludes the use of pharmaceutical products. The approach has its source, like Traditional Chinese Medicine, in the fact of taking into account the body and mind as “ALL” and therefore, to be interested in the treatment of the cause rather than that of the symptoms. The psychological, spiritual, physical and emotional are therefore all examined in order to bring you good health and well-being overall. Naturopathy is based on 4 main pillars:

  • Primum non nocere –“First of all, do no harm”;
  • Vis medicatrix naturae –“The healing power of nature”;
  • Tolle Causam – “Treat the cause”;
  • Docere –“Teaching”.

It is therefore a question of taking care of oneself so as not to have to treat anything, to use natural methods and ingredients, to treat the cause and not the symptoms and finally to teach the patient the rules of his own functioning so that he can take better care of himself.

The benefits of naturopathy

Since naturopathy affects many aspects of the body and mind through personalized follow-up and care, it can have many positive consequences on a daily basis and in the long term by helping you:

  • Adopt a healthy lifestyle that meets your needs;
  • Better manage the events of your life: periods of stress at work, bereavement, accident, illness …;
  • Be in harmony with yourself;
  • Regulate digestive disorders;
  • Learn to better manage your emotions;
  • Regain a restful sleep and a quick fall asleep;
  • Have healthy skin;
  • Get back in shape and a certain tone as soon as you wake up;
  • Get rid of bloating and other digestive discomfort;
  • Soothe skin disorders such as eczema, acne or psoriasis;
  • Rebalancing your hormonal system…

When should I consult a naturopath?

Case n°1: If you finish a heavy treatment

Naturopathy can help you recover physically and psychologically following heavy medical treatment. It will then act as an intermediary between medicine and well-being regained. Indeed, some treatments leave traces, and require a well-oiled protocol output. Fatigue, nausea, depression… Ask a naturopath for advice to help you experience the end of a treatment in a more serene and 100% natural way.

Case n°2: If you have a slack

Lack of vitality, drop in diet both physically and psychologically… Sometimes it doesn’t take much to make you feel a little drained. Naturopathy is then indicated since the power of plants or invigorating massages can allow you to regain a foolproof physical and mental shape!

Case n°3: If you suffer from chronic pain

Migraines, joint pain… There is not always a long-term treatment that can overcome some chronic pain. If you are looking for permanent solutions, or even a new lifestyle that could allow you to space or alleviate crises, then naturopathy is for you. Indeed, diet and physical activity, for example, can have real positive or negative consequences on the appearance of migraines or joint pain.

Case n°4: If you manage the changes of seasons badly

Ah, the famous seasonal blues… The lack of light, bad weather, the days that shorten are at theso many things that more or less affect the morale and fitness of human beings. If you are particularly sensitive to it, do not hesitate to rely on naturopathy to make a preventive cure of vitamins and minerals before the back-to-school period or before the end of year holidays.

Case n°5: If you feel significant stress

Stress can have unfortunate consequences on the body and mind. Indeed, it can weaken your immune system, make you gain or lose weight, or even trigger sleep disorders or anxiety. In anticipation of a stressful period at work or simply to find some inner peace, naturopathy can help you feel better, better manage the effects of stress, or even make them disappear!

Case n°6: If you have digestive disorders

Did you know that there are far more neurons in your digestive system than in your brain? Yes, the intestine would even be the seat of our emotions according to many scientists. Therefore, indigestion, an excess of sugar or alcohol can cause emotional disorders such as depression or lack of self-confidence. It is therefore essential to take great care of our digestive system! Fortunately, naturopathy excels in this area since it acts both at the level of the diet itself and the microbiota by advising if necessary food supplements that will strengthen the detoxifying action of the liver or probiotics that will increase the number of good bacteria located in your intestines.
