WhatsApp’s news: all about hidden features and unknown settings of the application

WhatsApp is full of all kinds of useful features that have been put in place to improve our user experience on the platform! In this article, we introduce you to 6 hidden tricks and functions to familiarize yourself with all the resources that the app has to offer and take full advantage of them. Curious to find out what it is? So, don’t delay and let’s dive into the fascinating world of WhatsApp together!

Tip 1: Create conversation shortcuts

WhatsApp offers a handy feature that allows you to create shortcuts for the most important conversations. No need to open the application every time, you can now access it faster! To achieve this, here are the steps to follow:

  • Open the conversation for which you want to create a shortcut.
  • Access the chat menu by tapping on the 3 dots at the top right of your screen, then click “more”.
  • Select the “Add Shortcut” option and voila!
  • You’ll see an icon appear on your home screen (along with your contact’s profile picture) allowing you to instantly access that conversation.

Discover contacts with which one person (including you) chats most often on WhatsApp is now possible. Here’s how:

  • Go to WhatsApp, then access the application menu by clicking on the 3 dots located at the top right of your screen.
  • Select the “Settings” option.
  • Tap “Data & Storage Usage”, then choose “Manage Storage”, and that’s it!
  • A new window will appear on your screen with the space that WhatsApp media files occupy on your phone. If you scroll down a little lower, you’ll see a list of contacts; The first on the list are the contacts you chat with the most.

Although this resource allows us to know the contacts with whom we chat more frequently, it is mainly designed to help us review and delete unnecessary files stored on the WhatsApp account, thus allowing us to free up storage space on the smartphone.

Tip n°3: Set to send ephemeral messages

    Send ephemeral messages on WhatsApp

Temporary messages are one of the most useful functions on WhatsApp, since it ensures that the intimate or confidential content we share in a conversation disappears without a trace. To make it clearer, enabling this feature means that all content in a conversation will be automatically deleted after 24 hours, 7 days, or 3 months, depending on how long you do. What’s more, this trick is much more convenient for those of us who don’t want to keep large files and clutter up the memory of our device. Activating this option is simple, just follow these steps:

  • Access any one-on-one conversation.
  • Click on the button with the three dots located at the top right of the screen,
  • Select the “ephemeral messages” option, then click on “Continue” and presto, voila!
  • Tip 4: Create a GIF from videos

No more famous GIFs that already exist on the application, now we can create our own GIFs from videos recorded on our smartphone. We show you how:

  • Open WhatsApp and navigate to a conversation of your choice.
  • Tap the camera icon in the text box to access the camera.
  • Select the video you want to turn into a GIF.
  • By moving the small rectangle at the top of your screen, reduce the length of your video to 6 seconds maximum.
  • Once the video is cut, two icons will appear at the top right of your screen: one for the camera and one for a GIF.
  • Click the GIF icon.
  • Now all you have to do is add a caption or emojis if you want, then press the “Send” button.
  • Tip 5: Rasterize parts of an image

Whatever the reason, there are times when we all want to hide some of the photos/images we send to our contacts. However, WhatsApp finally allows us to pixelate them. And here’s what you have to do, dear readers:

  • Select the photo you want to send.
  • And before sending it, click on the pencil icon.
  • Then, choose the “Pixelated” option located at the far right of your screen.
  • All you have to do is run your finger over the areas you want to hide.
  • Tip 6: Add style to discussions

Do you want to personalize your WhatsApp messages so that they are more expressive by adding a touch of style with the “bold” or “italic” formatting? To highlight a bold word or phrase, simply put them between two asterisks (*); with one at the beginning and the other at the end. And if you want to send sentences in italics, you just need to addAttach an underscore (_) at the beginning and end of the text and voila!

Bonus: the secret WhatsApp menu on Android and iPhone

    WhatsApp

WhatsApp has more than one trick up its sleeve! Indeed, the application has a hidden menu that very few people know. To access it, here’s what you need to do:

  • Go to the home screen of your mobile phone.
  • Press and hold the WhatsApp app icon for a few seconds.
  • A menu will appear with lots of options. (Note that these vary from one operating system to another.)
  • WhatsApp options on Android:

    • Camera
    • Delete the app
    • Share the app
    • Application Information
    • Access the three most used chats

    WhatsApp options on iOS/iPhone:

    • Camera
    • Delete the app
    • Share the app
    • My QR code
    • Research
    • New conversation

When we see the phrase “this message has been deleted” in one of our WhatsApp conversations, we can’t help but wonder what the person may have written to us before deleting their message.
