The Different Types of Depression According to Symptoms

You might feel the sadness once in a while, but if you are dealing with regular melancholia, you need to be concerned about it. The feeling of sadness, when conducted daily, might have the chance of affecting a person’s daily life. However, you can always get rid of it by taking specific medications, consulting with a therapist, changing your lifestyle, and many other necessary measures.

The type of depression may vary from person to person. Due to chemical changes, which take place because of some events of your life, may lead you to depression. As all the events are not the same for everybody, the depression type will not be the same as well.

The first and foremost part of your depression reducing journey is letting your doctor know what you feel like. There are mental health specialists who come in handy when it comes to figuring out what type of depression you have. Major Depression

Major Depression is recognized as “major depressive disorder” as well. This type of depression attacks you most of the time for most days of the week. It comes with various symptoms. Some of the symptoms may be:

  • Weight Loss or Gain;
  • Tiredness;
  • Lack of interest in activities;
  • Thoughts of suicide;
  • Sluggish feeling with a slowed-down mentality;
  • Insomnia;
  • Feeling worthless and guilty.

If you have more than five of these symptoms, your doctor is supposed to diagnose you most days for two weeks or longer. Therapies are always beneficial in such scenarios. Psychiatrists implement their talk therapy with their patients and help them to get rid of their major depressive disorder. Persistent Depressive Disorder

  • Feeling hopeless;

Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar Disorder is also known as Manic Depression. When you have this type of depression, you may have various mood episodes that range from high to low energy. Typically, if you go to the low phase, you will notice the symptoms of major depression. Mood swings are the major symptoms in this type of depression. However, taking prescribed medications from professionals will help you alleviate your bipolar disorder. Mood stabilizers such as lithium are very effective in such situations. Three medicines are approved by the FDA for this disease.

  • Latuda;
  • Seroquel;
  • Olanzapine-fluoxetine combination.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

As soon as the season changes, a feeling of sadness and fatigue sets in. It is called Seasonal Affective Disorder aka SAD. SAD may only kick on at a certain time of the year. The rest of the year you are likely to remain normal just like others. The sufferers might also come across sensitivity and emotional reaction to the amount of daylight at a particular time of year.

Anxiety Depression

People with anxiety depression may get panicked easily. Anxiety is a common type of mental; illness in today’s life. Social phobia may also attack the suffered when he or she has anxiety disorders. Besides, panic attacks can also be noticed sometimes. Some types of stress disorders are also considered as symptoms of this type of depression.

Post-Partum Depression

After pregnancy, it is usual for a woman to have post-partum depression. Some symptoms of this type of depression are irritability, grief, crying, and a feeling of fragileness. These symptoms are common in omen after delivery due to this type of depression.

Depression has become a common mental disorder in this modern era, but it should not be taken lightly. It may lead to severe issues which can be very difficult to deal with afterward. Considering the above list, it is clear that depression may take place in more than one form and affects in different types. Therefore, whenever someone falls victim to depression, it is imperative to consult with a psychologist or psychiatrist for a correct diagnosis, followed by a proper type of therapy.
