Reason Why You Should Never Keep Your Eggs In The Refrigerator – Something You Need To Know | Healthy Life Vision

Gudrun Howell · August 9, 2018 ·

Eggs are some of the most versatile ingredients and many people use them for breakfast, prepared in many different ways. Besides being easy to prepare, eggs are also extremely healthy and nutritious.

Consequently, many people buy eggs in bulk and keep them refrigerated or at room temperature. However, not long ago, a debate on this topic has emerged on some forums, discussing whether eggs should be refrigerated or not. Even though not everyone keeps them in the fridge, people in Australia, Japan, and North America do.

However, those who keep their eggs refrigerated are at risk to get salmonella, a type of bacteria. According to a study published in the Journal of Food Protection, in vitro insertion of salmonella into eggs is more successful in warm eggs than cold ones.

According to National Public Radio, eggs shouldn’t be refrigerated! They explanation behind this is that there are other protective measures against salmonella, such as washing, inspections, and tracking the eggs on their way from the supplier to the store. Moreover, the majority of chickens in Europe are vaccinated against this bacterium, which means that there is no need to worry about it.

FDA reported that vaccines are the most effective component of Salmonella enteritidis prevention program. According to Marianne Gravely, a technical information expert at the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, eggs shouldn’t be kept at room temperature for more than 2 hours.

She says that it is impossible to see if an egg shell is pathogen-free or not. In addition, bacteria which cause food poisoning don’t affect the taste, smell or appearance of the food, which is one of the worst things about them. Therefore, no one can differentiate between a chicken infested with salmonella and a chicken which is not, meaning that even eggs from a farmer`s market or the backyard of someone you know might contain salmonella.

Ultimately, the final decision is up to you. You should be completely aware of the food you consume and the way you consume it, as it is the best prevention of literally every health issue.
