Why Sleeping Pills Are Bad?

When a person has sleeping difficulty, he usually reaches for sleeping pills. Consequently, half of the American population has insomnia or poor sleep, as these pills don’t provide permanent fix, but provide temporary results only.

Sleeping pills are medications which are designed to maintain sleep and belong to the group of sedative hypnotics, along with benzodiazepines and barbitures.  Valium and Xanax, types of benzodiazepines, increase drowsiness and are used to treat anxiety. On the other hand, barbitures depress the central nervous system and are used as anesthetics and sedatives. The problem with these pills is that they can be addictive and habit-forming. To be worse, they are associated with other health issues as well, including stomach pain, weakness, constipation, dizziness, difficulty focusing and remembering, uncontrollable shaking, and parasomnias.

Moreover, sleeping pills can be dangerous and even fatal for people suffering from lung diseases such as COPD or asthma. The reason behind this is that they slow down the breathing rhythm.

How Sleep Deprivation Affects the Body?

In case you didn’t know already, getting less than 8 hours of sleep is harmful for the body. When the body doesn’t get the minimum 8 hours of sleep, both short-term and long-term memory is affected and the body suffers.

However, not only sleep deprivation causes disturbances in cognitive performance, but it increases the risk of diseases like obesity, diabetes, and cancer as well.

So, it is very important to find the underlying cause of your irregular sleeping patterns and to look for a way to overcome it. The banana tea is a good way to do it; it is all-natural, safe to use, delicious, and very effective.
