Here’s How To Properly Take A Tick Out! | Healthy Life Vision

Gudrun Howell · January 9, 2017 ·

Pulling it upwards and rotating it at the same time is the widely accepted way of getting a tick out. However, experts say that this method could be wrong and that we have been doing it wrong the entire time!

Ticks can be usually found in nature in spring and summer, but they can appear in autumn as well. Therefore, people who spend a lot of time outdoors should be especially cautious. Ticks typically stick to wet and soft body parts, such as the underarms, stomach, the neck and chest, behind the ears, and on children`s heads. Once they break they skin, they start feeding on your blood, which in turn can lead to various infections and even Lyme disease. So, reacting on time and removing the tick right away is of utmost importance.

Once the tick gets onto the skin, it starts looking for the point of entry which can sometimes take hours. Therefore, when you spend more time outside, make sure you check the skin every few hours. Moreover, experts recommend wearing bright clothes, closed footwear, and long sleeves.

How to Remove a Tick Properly?

You should take a pair of tweezers, pinch them close to the tick`s head and pull upwards. If the head stays in the skin, remove it with a sterile needle. Never pour alcohol directly onto the tick as it is very strong and it may dissolve it, which in turn can spread the disease into the bloodstream.

Still, visiting a doctor and getting the tick removed by a profession is the best way to do it. Make sure you react within 24 hours!
