The ulcers are small, very painful spots (Aphthous ulcers or ulcers), which appear on the mucous linings of the mouth. They can have gray, yellow or white color, and can occur individually or in groups. They usually appear on the top or the edge of the tongue, on the inner part of the cheek or the inner edges of the lips.

There are many reasons for occurring ulcers in our mouth, like: poor immunity, genetic predisposition, vitamin deficiency, lack of minerals, digestive issues, hypersensitivity to foods, injures on the tongue, etc.

Also, the ulcers are appearing together with some skin ailments, ailments of the digestive system, cardiovascular ailments and connective tissue ailments. They can be result of anemia, radiation or chemotherapy.

The reappearance of the ulcers after several months is usual thing.

Statistics

According to the statistics, every fifth human in the world is affected by ulcers, and around 60% of the people are having problems with ulcers at least once a year.

The statistics are also saying that the most affected group of people are the younger ones between 20-40 years of age, particularly women (85%).

The cycle of developing ulcers in the mouth

Ulcer presents a boil in rounded shapes, with various sizes, clearly edged with inflamed red ring. The ulcers in the mouth are very painful and the pain is even worse by speaking, eating or moving the face.

They occur unexpectedly, and to the following order: discomfort, burning feeling, redness, ache and swelling. These sores are increasing step by step, and this process lasts from 3-30 days. The main symptom is the ache, and it lasts few days.

Prevention

The best preventions from ulcers are: improving the immune system, adequate diet rich with vitamins, flavonoids and minerals, enough sleep and daily activities or exercises.

Natural remedies and diet

The therapy for treating ulcers is consisted of improving immunity, lowering the pain and enhancing the healing.

You can also use healthy foods like onion and garlic. In order to lower the pain and enhance the healing you can apply tea bags and then rinse with cold salty water.

The doctors are recommending the geranium oil, lemon juice, lavender oil, melaleuca oil or sage tea. Apply them on the ulcers with your fingers.

You shouldn’t irritate the ulcers with spicy, hot or freezing cold food. Don’t use toothpaste that includes sodium lauryl sulfate.
