To take care of your hair, shampoo and conditioner are real allies. Whether oily, dry or straight, there is a product adapted to each type of hair that promises to make it shinier and more flexible. Nevertheless, silicone, a toxic substance, as well as other chemical compounds, are often present in these products. A more thoughtful choice is necessary before their use!

What substances present in after-schampoings should be avoided?

If conditioner and shampoo are essential, some ranges are to be avoided. They can damage the hair due to the toxic substances they contain, It is important to highlight them to know what you are exposing yourself to! Silicones

Silicones are substances that make your hair temporarily softer when you shower, and by untangling it more easily. It is for this reason that they are found in several products dedicated to hair care. Still They only damage the hair fiber over the uses.

To identify them, target scientific terms that usually end up. by “icon” “siloxane” or “iconol”.

Quaternary ammonium and PEG

These are the elements that give the substance of the product its soft texture. Similar to silicones, They are also considered harmful. To identify them, they are referred to as “Cellulose”, “Quaternium”, “Crosspolymer”, “Polyethylene glycol (PEG)”, “Polypropylene Glycol (PPG)”. Note that they can be found in some cosmetic products that claim to be silicone-free. Rather confusing, right!?

Also pay attention to these surfactants: “Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate”, “Sodium Lauryl Sulfate”, “Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate”, “Sodium Laureth Sulfate” or “Ammonium Laureth Sulfate”. These are irritating!

Some of them are less irritating but can still cause allergic reactions, such as “Disodium Cocoamphodiaceta”, “Cocamidopropyl Betaine” and “Sodium Coco Sulfate”.

Surfactants

Surfactants are not only found in hair care products since they are also present in the composition of household products or shower gels. It’s them which create the foaming effect of detergents and shampoos.

Nevertheless, they are also agents that can cause scalp irritation and skin allergies They can also make hair drier and more brittle.

Conservatives

These are the additives found in an immense amount of industrial products beyond those intended for hair care. And yet, they represent a health hazard since they can cause hormonal imbalances! Remember to avoid those that contain “Phenoxyethanol”, “Methylisothiazolinone” and all components that end in “phenyl”, “propyl”, “methyl”, “buthyl”, etc. The latter correspond to parabens.

Which products to favor so as not to damage the hair?

Fortunately, there are a lot of products that do not attack the hair. You can count onAyurvedic shampoos based on “Shikakai” or those containing plant active ingredients that feed the hair fiber, such as Panama Wood.

You can also find your happiness in plant powders, such as Amla, Kapoor Kashli or Orange powder which are excellent to care for and give shine to your hair.

What you have to remember, dear readers, is that there is no need to rush when it comes to choosing your conditioner! Now that you know how to decipher their compositions, they will have no secrets for you and for the greatest happiness of your hair!
