Gudrun Howell · November 11, 2025 · Leave a Comment

Yoga and Pilates are two complementary practices that are attracting more and more followers in search of well-being, strength and flexibility. Although different, they share the common goal of harmonizing body and mind, offering a multitude of health benefits. For novices, starting out can seem intimidating, but a few postures and basic principles allow you to slowly enter these worlds. Beauté Chérie guides you through the fundamentals of yoga and Pilates, to start your journey to better physical and mental health.

Yoga: union of body and mind

Yoga, a thousand-year-old practice originating in India, aims to unify the body, mind and breath through different postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayama) and meditation.

  • Benefits: It improves flexibility, strengthens muscles, reduces stress and promotes deep relaxation. Yoga also helps to improve concentration and balance the body’s energy.
  • Postures to start:
    • The Tree Pose (Vrksasana) Strengthens balance and concentration.
    • The Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II) Tones the legs, opens the hips and improves stability.
    • The Downward Facing Dog Pose (Adho Mukha Svanasana) stretches the back, shoulders and legs, while revitalizing the body.

Pilates: the strength of the center

Pilates, created by Joseph Pilates in the early twentieth century, focuses on strengthening deep muscles, improving posture and flexibility, with an emphasis on the “center” of the body, the abdominal area.

  • Benefits: It sculpts the body, improves postural alignment and fluidity of movement, while preventing injury. Pilates also increases body awareness and breath control.
  • Exercises to start:
    • The “hundred” Stimulates circulation, strengthens the abdominals and increases lung endurance.
    • The Bridge strengthens the muscles of the lower back and glutes, while stabilizing the spine.
    • The board (modified version for beginners) improves core strength and stability.

Incorporating Yoga and Pilates into Your Routine

Starting yoga or Pilates does not require any special equipment, just a mat and the willingness to engage in the practice. Start with short sessions, 20 to 30 minutes, focusing on breathing and body alignment.

  • Listen to your body: Respect your limits and progress at your own pace. Consistency is key to seeing the benefits to your health and well-being.

Yoga and Pilates offer rich and varied paths to better physical and mental health. Starting with simple postures and exercises, you can gradually explore the depth of these practices and discover their many benefits. Beauté Chérie encourages you to make these disciplines a pillar of your well-being routine, for a toned body, a peaceful mind and a harmonious life. Let this journey to balance begin!
