Journaling: the benefits of writing

Gudrun Howell · February 3, 2023 ·

Dilogging is about keeping a written record of your thoughts, feelings, and emotions. There are not really any rules that govern it, but those who practice it do so at least on a daily basis. How can taking 20 minutes to write down how you feel help? We bring you some answers on this practice of personal development and the benefits of writing.

Journaling: how does it work?

To set it up, you have to strive to write every day. You take a few minutes a day to put into words what you feel or what you have experienced recently.

You only write what you want. There is no rigid structure for a newspaper, it can go in the direction you want. Want to write a poem? Draw your dream of last night? Pour the words and ideas as you feel on paper. Don’t worry about spelling mistakes or what people might think, because this is a diary or your secret garden. To make writing easier, always have something to write down your thoughts. It can be a notebook and a pen, or an app on the phone.

Allows you to evaluate your career

Journaling makes it possible to identify improvements, automatisms and changes over time. You can go back in your journal, remember the things you faced, and see how you overcame them. Your journal has also collected your goals, dreams, and aspirations. Rereading your story reminds you of everything you’ve been through to get to this point and restores your self-confidence.

Helps reduce stress

Journaling is a good way to release pressure and provides a hook when you feel like you’re surrounded by chaos. It also helps you to put your finger on your negative thoughts, problems, fears and phobias and especially to rank them in order of importance. This then allows you to combat stress and anxiety, combat anxiety, avoid panic attacks, and better manage depressive episodes.

Improves your emotional intelligence

Emotional intelligence is the ability to perceive and manage one’s own emotions and those of others. By writing in your journal on a regular basis, you are bound to talk about others at some point. You will explain what others have done or said and how it made you feel. Conversely, you will also talk about your impact on others around you. By forcing you to take a step back, writing helps you refocus to better understand the experiences of others.

Can become your best ally

Journaling allows you to get to know yourself in depth. Through introspection, writing helps identify unhealthy thoughts or behaviors. It also gives you another perspective on everyday life. By writing about positive experiences, your brain experiences them a second time and reaffirms your abilities. Your journal can then become a real collection of your battles and more beautiful victories. A book that will calm you of your anxieties and that will make you happy to read again. It will help you find serenity in times when you are not doing well.
