Nothing is worse than having clothes that smell musty. A poorly cleaned or poorly ventilated closet can be subject to bad smells. Here’s how to get rid of foul odors in your closet with natural remedies.

  • Baking soda to deodorize your closet

Baking soda has antifungal and antibacterial properties, it is also very absorbent. It is therefore very effective in combating unpleasant musty odors. Fill a cloth bag or container with baking soda that you keep open and place it in a corner of the closet. Leave on for a day. If odors persist, you can leave the bag or container of baking soda inside the cabinet all season. Be careful to place it in a secure place where it is unlikely to fall over. The other option is to sprinkle the baking soda all over the cupboard or cabinet and let sit for two days before wiping off the excess. You can also add a few drops of essential oil of your choice to the white powder to impregnate your clothes with a soft and subtle fragrance.

Other ways to get rid of bad odors in the closet

Other options are available to you to absorb the bad odors that persist in your cupboards and cupboards. Get rid of unpleasant smells with these ingredients that you probably have at home.

  • Rice as a remedy to eliminate bad odors from your closet:

Rice is known to absorb moisture. If your clothes aren’t dried thoroughly before putting them back in your closet, it can cause dampness and a musty, musty smell can quickly settle in your closet. Rice can also be used as an air freshener to remove sweat odors if you add a few drops of essential oil to it depending on your favorite scent like lavender, eucalyptus or thyme. Take a cup of rice (ideally white rice). Then mix the rice in a bowl with 15 to 20 drops of essential oil. Then cover the bowl with a piece of thin fabric or cotton, which you will secure with a rubber band. Then place the bowl of rice in the back of your cupboard, so that it is not easily accessible. It is necessary to renew the operation after a few months.

  • Vinegar to neutralize bad odors in your closet

The vinegar you probably have in your pantry is not only effective in washing white clothes and disinfecting your home, but can also be used to effectively clean your closet. Soak a cloth in white vinegar and clean with the inside of your closet. Then let it dry for a few hours before storing your clothes in it. You can also add lemon to the vinegar for a better scent.

Coffee grounds can also be used to deodorize your closet and remove stubborn tobacco odors, for example. All you have to do is put some in a fabric bag that you will place inside your closet.

Start by emptying your closet of clothes first, then clean and disinfect the surface of your closet. Walls and shelves must be dusted and cleaned then dried. Do not hesitate to vacuum with a brush to absorb the dust lodged in the corners.

Before storing your clothes, it is useful to separate them by category, frequency of use, color, material, etc. You can then start organizing your closet by getting some fabric storage bins or boxes that will allow you to organize clothes by size and category. For example, separate the trousers from the polo shirts and the long-sleeved polo shirts from the short-sleeved ones. You can also store winter clothes in these boxes during the summer and vice versa. If you place these storage boxes in the lower part of your closet, you can place your shoes on them.

These tips will make it easier for you to clean out your closet and organize your closet by keeping it tidy.
