Joint pain is a painful condition which causes discomfort, soreness and inflammation in the joints. It’s a condition that affects millions of people around the world regardless of age or gender.

Joint pain can range from mild to severe and greatly affects your mobility. The main causes of joint pain are arthritis and gout, but bursitis, leukemia, fibromyalgia, muscle strains or dislocated bones can also be responsible.

Some foods can also aggravate the condition, which is why it’s important to avoid them. Here’s a list of what you shouldn’t eat to avoid joint pain:

Beer

Everyone loves beer, but drinking it in excessive amounts can be harmful to your joints. People who drink beer regularly are at a higher risk of rheumatoid arthritis and gout. Beer contains purine, a compound which is converted to uric acid in the body. The alcoholic beverage also contains gluten and toxins which are harmful to your joints and your overall health.

Red and processed meat

These meats contain chemicals such as purines and nitrites which can increase inflammation in your body and cause joint pain. Processed foods are rich in advanced glycation end products which significantly raise inflammation. Instead of these types of meat, you should focus on eating fruits and vegetables.

Refined and artificial sugars

Sugar can increase the levels of AGEs in the body, and also triggers the release of cytokines which cause inflammation. Sugar is a high-calorie ingredient which can make you gain weight and put unnecessary pressure on your joints.

Eggs

Consuming big amount of eggs can cause swelling and joint pain. Egg yolks are rich in arachidonic acid, which stimulates production of prostaglandins and triggers inflammation in the body. Eggs are also rich in saturated fats which result in inflammation and pain, so make sure you skip the yolks and eat the whites instead.

Foods rich in monosodium glutamate

Monosodium glutamate is a food additive which is added to enrich the flavor of certain foods such as potato chips, snacks, frozen foods, soups and commercial dressings. However, this ingredient also raises inflammation in the body, especially if you’re suffering from an inflammatory condition. This results in aggravation of the problem and joint pain.
