Gudrun Howell · August 14, 2018 ·

Thanks to their incredible effects, a huge number of natural remedies are still in use today centuries after their invention. Do you remember the times when your grandmother used a natural solution for your fever or ankle sprain? There are many natural remedies which can resolve medicinal problems even better than conventional medications. Today we’re going to present the top ten natural remedies that will help you treat one of the biggest problems of today – insomnia.

Milk remedies for insomnia

A cup of hot milk before you go to bed can help you sleep better, but we’re going to present a few herbs and spices that will boost the effect of the milk.

Add ¼ a teaspoon of cinnamon powder in your cup of milk and drink it an hour before going to bed for best results.

Add a teaspoon of powdered nutmeg to a cup of warm milk and drink it before going to bed. You can also use fresh grated nutmeg in a cup of milk or warm water.

Put a few strands of this unusual herb in a glass of warm milk and drink the remedy before going to bed to sleep like a baby.

Herbal teas

Herbal teas are among the most powerful insomnia remedies that exist. Here are the best:

Chamomile is a natural sleep remedy which works due to the high apigenin content that possesses relaxing properties. Brew a cup of chamomile tea and drink it with a teaspoon of honey an hour before going to bed to fall asleep easy.

Lettuce has powerful relaxing properties that can treat anxiety and insomnia and help you sleep better. To prepare the tea, boil a few sheets of lettuce in hot water and strain the tea afterwards, then add a bit of honey and drink the tea before going to bed.

Valerian has powerful sedating and relaxing properties that will soothe your muscles and nerves and help you sleep better. Add ½ a teaspoon of valerian and some grated nutmeg in 2 cups of water, then boil the mixture for 15 minutes and drink it before going to bed. However, due to its powerful effects, experts recommend following the treatment for a maximum of 3 weeks.

Other insomnia remedies

Mash one banana and add a teaspoon of cumin powder in, then consume the mixture before going to bed.

Bananas are rich in tryptophan, a substance that can boost your serotonin levels and help you fall asleep easier. The fruit also contains calcium, iron, potassium and other minerals which can help you fall asleep easily.

A relaxing hot bath before going to bed can help you fall asleep easier and sleep better. A hot bath can relax your body and nerves, and it’s be even more effective if you add a few drops of your favorite essential oil in the warm water.

  1. Apple cider vinegar and honey

ACV contains certain amino acids that can relieve fatigue and help you relax, resulting in better sleep. Honey has powerful relaxing properties as well and will trigger the release of serotonin in the brain which will regulate your sleep cycle. Mix 2 tablespoons of honey and apple cider vinegar in a cup of warm water and drink the mixture before going to bed.
