Knorr, Kitano, Ajinomoto and Maggi are all popular stock brands that are consumed on a daily basis by millions of people around the world. These soup brands are considered pretty healthy, but according to newest studies, the reality is pretty different.

Scientists say that these stock brands contain a variety of unhealthy ingredients, including one that’s considered detrimental to human health – monosodium glutamate.


Monosodium glutamate, or MSG as it’s also known, is a harmful chemical that has been associated with problems such as arrhythmia, headaches, migraines, seizures, vomiting, nausea and depression. MSG promotes the production of acetylcholine in the system, another harmful substance that can reduce the glucose absorption in the body and is considered a precursor to Alzheimer’s disease and weight gain. Furthermore, some scientists have linked monosodium glutamate to even more serious diseases and conditions.


MSG gives the stocks their flavor and is present in almost any type of processed food. It blocks the neurological function of the hypothalamus, the part of the brain that controls our appetite. In this way, MSG makes us eat more, while also being just as addictive as sugar.


Instead of this artificial flavor, experts suggest using spices and herbs frozen in olive oil in your soups and stews. It’s a far more natural and safe option, and easy to use as well. Just put some olive oil in an ice cube tray, add some spices and herbs, freeze them and use a cube in your soup whenever you need it.
